Simulation of welding processes

The welding process simulation is the origin and progress of the welding mainly in the seam area. Here, this simulation aims to predict the seam formation. The heat input is determined predictively. The welding process simulation considers all welding processes such as:
  • Arc welding processes
  • Beam welding processes
  • Resistance techniques (e.g. resistance spot welding)
  • Friction welding
  • Inductive welding processes
The welding process simulation is used to design the process parameters, to predict the seam properties or to calculate the heat input.

Structural welding simulation

A common feature of the structural welding simulation is that the heat input is not calculated predictively during the simulaiton but is given as an input variable in the form of an equivalent alternative heat source. The structural welding simulation calculates the temperature field, the welding distortion, the residual stresses and the microstructure on the entire component or assemblies. The structural welding simulation also considers all welding processes such as:
  • Arc welding processes
  • Beam welding processes
  • Resistance techniques (e.g. resistance spot welding)
  • Friction welding
  • Inductive welding processes
The structural welding simulation can also be used for soldering, build-up welding or additive manufacturing processes as well as for special issues such as heating a lens due to beam passing. All materials and alloys that are weldable can be included in the simulation:
  • steel, iron
  • aluminium
  • other metals (titanium, magnesium, copper, zinc)
  • glass
  • plastic
Structural welding simulation determines the effect of welding sequence or clamping situation on the final state of the component. Optimisation measures or compensatory measures can be designed accordingly.

Multilevel calculations and process chain simulation can be used to calculate and design the entire manufacturing process, including other manufacturing processes such as forming or heat treatment:
